Three Amazing Truths

I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit.  Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. - Ephesians 3:16-17 (NLT)

Reading in Ephesians today, I am reminded of three amazing truths:

  1. My inner strength must come from the Spirit of God.
  2. My faith and trust in Christ opens the door for Him to rule in my heart.
  3. My strength is found in a deep understanding and acceptance of God's love.

My inner strength is something I often attribute to work ethic, healthy habits, personal development, my convictions. I'm reminded today that while all of these are very important and contribute to my inner strength, first and foremost my inner strength must come from my personal relationship with the Holy Spirit. It is by His leading alone that I am able to be a disciple of Christ and achieve inner peace of mind and heart.

My heart can no longer be filled with desires that conflict with life in the Spirit. My heart must be ruled by Christ. The pathway from heart to head to hand must go through Christ at every turn - every decision. He is the ruler of this space - not my ego, selfish ambitions, or desire for pleasure.

My love for myself, others, and God flows from living life in the Spirit and allowing Christ to rule in my heart. My actions, my desires, my choices all must be rooted in the love of God. When they are not then I must examine where my roots are planted. Where my motivations are coming from - what whole in my heart am I trying to fill with life outside of the Spirit - life guided by the sinful nature?

My strength is in God's love, which comes through Christ ruling in my heart, and begins with a deep loving relationship with my Advocate the Holy Spirit. Let this be the truth in my life. Let this be the hope and message I share with others each day. Let me make this my mission and purpose in life.

Holy Spirit, everything I have and am is yours. Fill me up in the inner most parts of my body, mind, and soul. Take ownership and guide me. Jesus, my heart is yours. Increase my faith and trust in you. Give me the courage to live life without borders. Father God, please allow me to sink my roots into your rich love. Allow your love to flow up through these roots and produce a life of obedience, faith, passion, and discipleship for you my LORD. Amen.

Questions To Consider

  • Where does the culture of your company or home find its inner strength?
  • Does Christ fully rule in your heart? If so, what evidence would those you love and lead see from this truth?
  • What is the result of your life being rooted in the deep and rich love of God?

Make it a great day!
