His Prized Possession

He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession. - James 1:18 NLT

The Good News of Jesus Christ - His story of love, grace, and hope - the belief in that story gives me a new life.

According to the apostle John I am born again - of water and spirit (John 3:1-21) this time. The old way of thinking and behaving is to be put away - I am to transform my mind by meditating on and responding to God's word. When I do this a new person emerges. A person that is able to enter the Kingdom of God because of the work of Christ and my acceptance of and faith in that great work.

This is the true word through which I am able to receive this new birth - the Good News - and at the heart of it is Jesus, the living Word. The Word that was in the beginning, with God, and through whom all things were created. (John 1:1-3)

What a blessing to know that when I come to the cross and accept the truth of Christ I am no longer held ransom by my past wrongs and sins. I can begin to find freedom from the chains of dysfunctional cycles that hold me down. I find purpose - life has new meaning - and I experience a worthy calling on my life like never before.

As I reflected on this truth today I had to wonder if this is the reason why we became God's prized possession. A possession that is free to choose whether to leave or stay - to submit or rebel - to have a hardened heart or a heart of worship.

Out of all creation we are prized. Because we are made in His image, because of our humanness - our desire for purpose - our need for a calling - and our capacity to experience his unconditional love like no other part of creation.

I think it is worth resting in the truth that we are prized. Even when we do not feel it - we know that our Father in heaven loves us and cherishes us over all creation. When everything in this world rejects us, fails us, mocks us - there is the love of God. We are his prized possession.

LORD, thank you for giving us the opportunity to be born again - to experience your mercy, grace, and love. Holy Spirit help me to believe this true word. Help me to accept your love in all areas of my life. Jesus, teach me how to share this message of hope and love and grace and acceptance with others so they too may be born again. Amen.

Questions To Consider:

  • Is there anything you prize more than your relationship with God?
  • Have you fully accepted that you are a new creation in Jesus Christ and the freedom that brings you?
  • How does your leadership style reflect the grace, hope, and love we find in our loving God?

Make it a great day!
