At some point in life we have to put the self-help book down, stop listening to the motivational speaker, and attending the latest and greatest conference. At some point in life it’s time to get up and start living out what we believe and what we are called to do. The sooner we get to this point in life the longer we have to enjoy living a life of purpose and meaning. This is extremely challenging to do, because those wonderful books, CDs, and events are addictive. They give us the “fix” we need to stay positive. We learn all the rules, laws, and steps to living a great life. I can’t help but wonder though if we are missing half the equation?
Simply knowing the rules, steps, and laws of success does not equate to changed lives, great customer service, effective products, or healthy-strong relationships. We are obligated to go one step further. We must engage the world around us through acts of love, service, loyalty, innovation, and grace if we are going to truly have the life of purpose and impact we desire. I believe this is the other half of the equation; taking action on our knowledge, values, vision, faith, and our calling in life.
When we do this the need for a “fix” will fade away and it will be replaced by a continual passion for building relationships, serving our clients and delivering great experiences. Our desire will cease to be for knowledge alone, but instead for innovative and unique ways to take action and deliver results.
At some point in life it’s time to get up and start living out what we believe and what we are called to do. I don’t know about you, but I desire a long life of living out my purpose and impacting the world around me. I hope you’ll join me on this quest.
