So you’ve written your business vision and it resonates with both your head and your heart. It looks nice all typed up and you’ve even put it into a nice folder with page protectors. Well, now what? How are you going to use this vision to achieve your goals? If you’re like me, after completing this exercise you may feel unsure about what the next steps are in achieving what you wrote down. Here are four actions steps that I’ve learned over the past few years that have helped me be more proactive and intentional in using my vision to reach my goals and build my business. Reflect on Your Vision – I recommend that you do this twice a week until you find yourself living out your vision each and every day. Memorize your purpose statement and core convictions. Read through the behaviors that you associated with your core convictions and make sure your existing behaviors are in alignment. If you need to make adjustments to your vision the re-write those sections and add clarity to the document where it is needed.
Share Your Vision – If you are really passionate about your vision then you will not be able to stop talking about it with others. I encourage you to share your vision with a significant other, a close friend, a business peer, and a mentor. Find someone that is currently living the vision you want to achieve and share it with them. Ask them for guidance and feedback on what you’ve written. You don’t need to necessarily change your vision based on the feedback you receive but be open to their ideas and the lessons they have learned along the way.
Market Your Vision – I hate to use that word, but I’m not sure how else to say what I mean. You need to let your clients, team members, general public, boss, etc. know about your vision. I’ve included my team’s vision on my blog. I have it printed and ready to hand out to people I am recruiting to my team. I review it frequently with my team in sales meetings. Your goal here is to use your vision as a way to naturally “pull” people towards you. You want it to be a magnet. If you have to “push” people towards you and your business then something is wrong. Use your vision to connect with people.
Celebrate Great Moments – Whether you journal or blog make sure you are recording the milestones you reach and goals you achieve as you live out your vision. I like to celebrate when my team’s actions are recognized for being in alignment with our core convictions. Celebrate and record these great moments in the vision story that you are telling to the world.
Question: How are you using your vision to reach your goals?
Make it a great day!
