When Lot still hesitated, the angels seized his hand and the hands of his wife and two daughters and rushed them to safety outside the city, for the LORD was merciful. Genesis 19:16 (NLT)
Do you ever have those moments in life where you are hesitant to believe the promises of God or the prompting of the Holy Spirit? Those moments where you know change is necessary, but to do so would be difficult so you hesitate to make the difficult decision.
I have those all the time. I think part of it is my pride and ego getting in the way, where I want to say, "My way will work! Just let me be in control." But, more often it is about my fear of loss and being stretched outside of my comfort zone.
I fear losing what I know, what is comfortable, and I say things like, "just a little bit longer, I can make this work" when I need to be saying, "okay LORD, I'm going to trust in you."
Giving up control is hard but admitting that I have to change my thinking and behaving is even more difficult for me. This same type of hesitation almost cost Lot his life. My hesitation costs me time living in the Spirit and experiencing complete surrender to God.
I'm thankful today for a loving God that never stops reaching out his hand and in some cases seizing my hand, in an act of mercy, and pulling me to the safety of His perfect will. There is comfort in the space where I surrender fully to God, take His hand, and trust fully in Him.
Father, thank you for never leaving me, but always giving me a choice. Thank you for your mercy - for being willing to seize me when I am lost and hesitant. Holy Spirit, teach me how to live fully in you! Remind me of your love and kindness - your perfect timing and will. Jesus, help me to take up my cross each day and live as your disciple without hesitation - sharing the Good News of your mercy and grace in my life.
- Is there an area of your life or leadership where you are hesitating to give control over to the LORD?
- Are you creating a culture at home and at work where people can experience grace and mercy when they fail?
- Who do you know that needs to hear about how God's mercy and grace has impacted your life?
Make it a great day!
