I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations. - Jeremiah 1:5 NLT
I am thankful today for a Creator (Elohim) that considers each one of us to be special and unique. In a world where the mass production of products and services delivered on a global scale are becoming the norm, it is rare to find something custom made for a unique purpose.
But for God, this is how he approaches each one of us. He views us as a unique creation that he thought of - considered - planned for - and designed for a purpose in this life.
Like a quality craftsman he formed our personalities, endowed us with gifts, and equipped us with natural talents. And, we have been called to use them no matter our circumstances or environment.
Throughout His word we see that this special attention was not given just to the royal class, the wealthy, or even the righteous. We see his special design and plans for Rahab, the prostitute of Jericho who would help bring the nation of Israel into the Promised Land - for the small but courageous shepherd boy, David, who would become King - for the young teenage mother, Mary, who would give birth to Jesus - and we see it in a religious terrorist who imprisoned Christ followers, watched as His followers were murdered, and destroyed families, but then converted to the faith he persecuted, and became Paul. A man who would became the voice of the Good News to millions across the Middle East and Europe.
As I think of these people and others, I am humbled and filled with joy knowing that God has a plan for me - he has set me apart - and that when I follow Him - when I am His disciple - I too can live with purpose and influence the world around me.
My heavenly Father and Creator, thank you for thinking of me and having a vision for me long before I was even born. Holy Spirit help me to answer my calling each day. Help me to see my calling in the divine appointments and interactions all around me - with each person that I encounter today. Jesus, give me the courage to put my appointment - my purpose - my calling to be one of your disciples at the forefront of my mind. Help me to prioritize this above everything else so that I can share the Good News boldly and influence those I lead, love, and serve. Amen.
